Everyday Miracles

by admin on June 7, 2010

Every single day I wake up and think to myself – “What is going to be my miracle today?”  I meditate and listen to beautiful music, and go through all things I need to accomplish that day in my mind.  I lay in bed for a few minutes and think of all the adventure I’m going to have that day – looking for my miracle – when I’m grocery shopping, or cleaning the house, or just doing mundane things.  I know, I just know that something really special is going to happen, and I put my adventurous spirit to work  looking for my miracle!  I always think – what one thing could make me really happy today?  It could be  a compliment from someone I admire, or a phone call that I’ve been expecting, but forgot about, or it could be a new connection on Facebook.  It could be so many things.

The one thing that stays constant in my mind, is the fact that a miracle is going to happen every day.  In that way, my life becomes like an adventure.  It’s not uneventful or boring.  It’s not without fun or excitement.  Looking for my miracle, actually spruces up everything I do, and makes it wonderful.

The other day, my miracle came in  many ways, but it was brought to me by my cousin Christina.  She invited me to her nursing/rehabilitation home where she works as a stylist, to bring my soy candles and jewelry.  She set up a table in the dining hall for me and even got the staff to briefly advertise it on the bulletin board.  I was excited to bring my beautiful Valentine’s Day soy candles, that I had in 4 oz jars with beautiful heart stickers, ribbons and sexy Valentine’s Day scents.  I was running a bit late, from another appointment in Houston, and as soon as I got all the boxes in the dining hall, people were grabbing at everything before I had time to set everything up properly.  I almost got run over by the ladies in wheelchairs!  It was so rewarding the residents, patients, and staff look at the candles and jewelry, and give such great compliments, and they purchased things so quickly.  My cousin Christina is my biggest fan.  She kept telling them – “This is my cousin Laureen – and she makes these all by hand!”.  Then she would say “This is only $5, can you believe it?”  I don’t think I could have hired a better sales person!

The other miracle was talking with the residents/patients themselves.  They were so sweet, and some were with their families.  One lady had to tell me all about her daughter and grandchildren, and she wouldn’t stop talking.  She also, wouldn’t stop buying things too!  It was so funny.

As we packed up, I told Chrissy that of all the Christmas/fall shows I did last year, I sold more in two hours, than I did at any of those “big” shows. Although, I mainly sold my candles at the Christmas shows, because the jewelry booths filled up quickly, I got more fulfilled by being at the nursing home, than any of those other shows.  I even talked with the nursing home administrator about putting a program of songs together to come back and perform for all of them.  I think I’m going to have to get back into some voice lessons soon!

So, that was my miracle.  So what was yours?  Write to me and let me know.  I’d love to hear it!
